Volunteer at the East New York Youth Farm–a dynamic 1/2 acre urban farm that grows organic produce, trains youth to become food justice leaders, and processes over 7,000 pounds of food scraps into compost annually. Master Composter trainees will assist in decontaminating food scraps and chopping them up to process in a 5-bin composting system, bagging finished compost, distributing bagged compost to community members, and general site maintenance.
Please dress comfortably and wear closed-toed shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Remember to bring a water bottle!
The site is located at 620 Schenck Ave in Brooklyn, between New Lots and Livonia Avenue–a block away from the 3 subway line. There is a deli around the corner for food, drinks and snacks. Street parking available in the area.
Event led by East New York Farms! staff and interns with the support of NYC Compost Project Hosted by LES Ecology Center staff.
Registration is required for participation in this event. Please make sure to use the same name and email for all Master Composter Certificate Course events.
